Our friend photographer Fran Kaufman visited us during the recent APAP showcases at the Hilton in NYC. She took some wonderful shots of the band. Roger Davidson was delighted to share the stage with Frank London and his Klezmer orchestra, chock full of Klezmatics members (Lorin Sklamberg onb accordion and Matt Darriau on clarinet and sax) and favorite sidemen (Soundbrush’s own Pablo Aslan on bass and drummer Michael Sarin.) They played selections from “On The ROad To Life” for booking agents and theater managers at  the annual trade show.

Polyglot composer and pianist Roger Davidson teams up with Klezmer master Frank London and an All Star band to present a smorgasbord of Eastern European influenced music. Davidson’s compositions blend Russian, Hungarian, and Israeli melodies with tango, waltz, and jazz. Impassioned performances have received acclaim from NY to Krakow, Poland.

Executive Producer Roger Davidson and Producer Pablo Aslan spent some time at NYC’s Masterdisc studios with engineer Scott Hull. They put the finishing touches on a lovely recording of jazz standards featuring Davidson’s trio with long time associate David Finck and special guest drummer Lewis Nash. The album is titled “We Remember Helen” and is a tribute to Roger’s mentor producer Helen Keane. Highlights of the upcoming CD are a vigorous reading of “Whisper Not” a lovely lullaby-like rendition of “Waltz for Debbie” and a rollicking piano drums duet on “Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho”. Coming in April 2012.

The Society for Universal Sacred music presented the 5th Festival of Universal Sacred Music at NYC’s Symphony Hall.

Some of the featured performers were: Anonymous 4, Deepak Kumar Pareek, The New York Virtuoso Singers, The Riverside Church Inspirational Choir, Maya Raviv, The Western Wind, Catherine Russell, Roger Davidson, and David Newman. The event was a tremendous success and gathered three times more audience than any of our past Festivals!

The SUSM resident vocal ensemble The New York Virtuoso Singers performed material from their two recent Soundbrush releases “In The Divine Image” (SR 1021) and “Toward Lasting Peace” (SR1022)

PABLO ASLAN QUINTET:  “Piazzolla in Brooklyn” SR 1023 is ready for release on November 8th. Join us on November 11-12 at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Pablo will be participating on a 90th Birthday  Tribute to Astor Piazzolla concert with Paquito D’Rivera, Pablo Ziegler, Pipi Piazzolla, Octavio Brunetti, Hector Del Curto, Daniel Binelli and many others.

Roger Davidson has a new Jazz Trio recording in the can.  Recorded at Avatar  over the summer with legendary drummer Lewis Nash and bassist extraordinaire David Finck.  It is a collection of some of Roger’s favorite standards and some very special tunes. The album is dedicated to Roger’s mentor producer Helen Keane. We look forward to announcing the release in 2012.

Roger in Rio – (not to be confused with Rodgers in Rio, our 2002 release of Richard Rodgers tunes styled as Brazilian Jazz). Leaving this week, Roger Davidson travels with producer Pablo Aslan to Rio de Janeiro to record two new albums of original compositions with longtime collaborator drummer Paulo Braga, and a stellar ensemble of local musicians, including drummer Rafael Barata, bassists Ney Conceiçao and Sergio Barroso, trombonist Gilmar Ferreira, sax player Marcelo Martins, and percussionist Marco Lobo.

He will also be performing a concert at Sala Baden Powell and playing at The Maze, a hot new jazz club featured in last week’s NYTimes Travel section.  We look forward to sharing the videos and the photos.

ROGER DAVIDSON and FRANK LONDON toasted their new release On The Road of Life (SR 1020) as part of The 7th Annual NY Gypsy Festival at DROM NYC. The place was packed and music dazzled from the first number.

Before a packed audience at the Tempel Synagogue, in the heart of Krakow’s Jewish district, Kazimierz, Roger Davidson brought his compositions from “On The Road of Life” with the Frank London Klezmer Orchestra. The capacity crowd brought the performers back for 3 encores in what was a truly unforgettable night.Two days later the band participated in the festival finale: SHALOM ON SZEROKA STREET before thousands of ecstatic fans.
